Ukrainian woman who joined Azov regiment dies after losing son in war

Nataliya Luhovska, a Ukrainian woman who joined the Azov regiment after her own son was killed on the front lines, died inside the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol.

Isa Soares, from CNN, first reported his story on Wednesday (4). In an interview, Nataliya’s mother, Paraskeviya, said that she begged her daughter to leave Azovstal, but she rejected two offers of surrender.

“She goes all the way. She’s no use crying and begging,” the mother said. “I want people like Putin not to exist on Earth… What can I say, poor are those mothers who raised children who are now killing innocent people.”

when the CNN arrived at Nataliya via Telegram on Monday, she wrote “morale is high” and “hope we come back with victory”.

The news of his death was also confirmed by the Azov regiment and the city mayor. Her family said she died as a result of an air strike. She was 51 years old.

THE CNN learned about the family story while filming in his hometown of Chernovohrad, about an hour north of Lviv.

When asked about her rank in the regiment, Nataliya said she was a junior sergeant and that she first had a role as a military psychologist, but then had “new additional responsibilities” that she could not disclose.

According to the family, Nataliya’s son-in-law also died while fighting in Mariupol on April 21.
