Ukrainians who lost relatives after the Russian invasion of their country can from today file claims for compensation through a mechanism that has already received thousands of claims. The Disaster Registry for Ukraine, which has been operating in The Hague since last April, is collecting requests to provide compensation for property damage, deaths and injuries suffered by victims following the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022. “From today private individuals who have lost a member of their family can request to be compensated for the mental anguish they suffered,” said the Registry. “This is significant progress given the enormous, personal suffering caused by Russia’s attack” and offers families a way to seek justice for their losses, the statement said.
