UN agency says six staff killed in Gaza strikes

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, said six of its staff were killed after two airstrikes hit a school in central Gaza on Wednesday (11), marking what it said was the highest death toll among its staff in a single day.

The Hamas-run government media office said the Israeli strike killed at least 18 people, including UNRWA staff.

People could be seen collecting human remains, some of which were placed in blankets and others in plastic bags. A man with serious leg injuries was seen being loaded into an ambulance.

The war was triggered on October 7, when Hamas attacked Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking about 250 hostages, according to Israeli records. Israel’s subsequent assault on Gaza killed more than 41,000 Palestinians and wounded 95,029, according to the enclave’s health ministry.

Both warring sides blame the other for the failure so far to reach a ceasefire that would end the fighting and lead to the release of hostages.

Almost all of Gaza’s 2.3 million people have been forced to flee their homes at least once, and some have had to flee up to 10 times.
