At least 351 civilians have been killed in Ukraine since the Russian-led invasion on February 24 and another 707 have been injured, although the actual number is likely to be “significantly higher”, a UN mission said on Saturday, according to Reuters.
Most of the civilian casualties were caused by high-impact explosive devices, including heavy artillery and multi-launcher missiles, as well as rocket and air strikes, observers from the U.S. OHCHR).
“The OHCHR believes that the actual numbers are significantly higher, especially in government-controlled territories and especially in recent days, as information from some of the locations of intense hostilities has been delayed and many reports are still pending,” he said.
The mission said hundreds of civilian casualties in the town of Volnovacha – where efforts are being made to open a safe evacuation corridor through besieged Russian forces – have not yet been confirmed.
