UN chief condemns Israeli strike on ‘safe humanitarian area’ in Gaza

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned a deadly Israeli airstrike on a “safe humanitarian area” in southern Gaza on Tuesday (10), UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said.

“The use of heavy weapons in densely populated areas is unjust,” Dujarric said. “Palestinians moved to this area in Khan Younis in search of shelter, in search of safety, after being repeatedly told to do so by the Israeli authorities themselves.”

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said late Monday (9) that it “targeted key Hamas terrorists who were operating inside a command and control center embedded within the humanitarian area” in Khan Younis, Gaza.
