The United Nations General Assembly has today elected Bahrain, Colombia, the Congo People’s Republic, Latvia and Liberia, non -permanent members of the UN Security Council for a two -year term launched on January 1, 2026. The 15 -member Security Council is the only body of the UN. It has five permanent members who have the right to veto: Britain, China, France, Russia and the US. The remaining ten are elected, with five new members added each year. Bahrain, Colombia, LD Congo, Latvia and Liberia will replace Algeria, Sierra Leone, South Korea, Guiana and Slovenia.
