UN: Global food crisis could worsen if Ukrainian port of Odessa is not opened

The world faces “a perfect storm within a perfect storm” when it comes to the food crisis, according to the head of the United Nations (UN) World Food Program, David Beasley.

Beasley explained that the world is currently facing a food pricing problem, but with difficulties in producing food and fertilizer, we could “very well have a food availability problem.” He added that if the port of Odessa is not opened, it will add to the problem.

There are 49 million people in 43 countries who are “knocking on the door of hunger” and the world could face destabilization, mass migration and hunger if we don’t get ahead on the problem, he said during a panel speech at the Davos Economic Forum on Thursday. Switzerland.

Beasley noted that “there are enough leaders in Davos this week to end world hunger.”
