United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said on Tuesday that he is particularly concerned with the most vulnerable developing countries in the midst of a trade war, describing the impact on them as “more devastating.”
“Commercial wars are extremely negative. No one wins with a trade war, everyone tends to lose,” he told reporters.
Trade war
Since his second term began as president of the United States, Donald Trump has given signs of triggering a trade war. In the target are partners, such as Canada and Mexico, and competitors, as in China.
Brazil also did not come out unharmed from the line of shooting.
The trade war had a date to begin: April 2, called by the Republican as “Liberation Day.” The US president set the date as a “historic day for America” and said the measures will make the country “rich again.”
Who will pay the bill will be a hundred countries. China had a 34% reciprocity rate, plus the previous rate of 20% by Chinese items. The European Union had a 20% rate, while Brazil had a 10% tax on imports to the US.
In all, 185 countries will be taxed from April 5 with percentages between 10% and 50%.
