UN: Russia says more than 3,000 allegations against Ukraine went uninvestigated

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, addressing the UN Security Council on Thursday, said he had filed “more than 3,000 complaints of crimes allegedly committed by Ukraine since 2014 to the International Criminal Court and they have not were investigated”.

“Those who caused a terrible tragedy in Odessa in May 2014 remain unpunished, they were not investigated, found and punished,” said the minister.

He further said that Russia “has collected evidence of criminal actions by the Ukrainian military, including the use of civilians as human shields,” he continued.

Lavrov arrived at approximately 12:30 (Basília time) and sat down at the table almost an hour and a half late.

The UN council is discussing the maintenance of peace and security in Ukraine.

In his lengthy speech, the Russian minister accused the West of supplying Ukraine with weapons and covering up crimes in the capital.

“The neo-Nazis came to power as a result of weaponry with the direct support of Western countries and soon after that, using the path of illegality, they totally ignored the main rights and freedoms”, said Lvrov.

“The United States and its allies with the collusion of international human rights organizations are covering up the crimes of the Kiev regime,” Lavrov continued.

He further stressed that for this reason, “Russia does not trust the International Criminal Court. We do not expect anything more from this institution or from a whole series of other international institutions”.

Russia’s foreign minister left the meeting shortly after his speech.
