UN: Russian ambassador leaves Security Council meeting

Her ambassador Russia in UN withdrew from the Security Council meeting in response to the view that war in Ukraine can lead to a global food crisis.

According to Reuters, the incident occurred while the president of the European Council was speaking Charles Michel addressed to the 15 members of the Security Council and accused Moscow of inciting the global food crisis by invading Ukraine.

Michel also accuses Russian forces of war crimes and crimes against humanityin particular citing reports of sexual violence – which was the subject of the meeting – and describing the rapes as a “tactic of torture, terrorism and repression”.

Earlier, in his own intervention, Nebenzia “categorically denies” allegations of sexual violence by Russian soldiers, saying it was a “lie”.

Leaving the Security Council, the Russian diplomat told Reuters: “I could not stay because of the lies that Charles Michel came to spread today.”

Addressing Nebenzia as he headed for the exit, Michelle said: “You can leave, it may be easier not to hear the truth.”

“Mr. Ambassador of the Russian Federation, let us be honest, the Kremlin is using food stocks as a stealth missile against developing countries. “Russia is solely responsible for this food crisis.”
