UN Secretary-General calls for an end to the “cycle of retaliations” in the Middle East

In a post made on a social network this Friday morning (19), the secretary-general of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, warned of the need to stop the “dangerous cycle of retaliations in the Middle East ”.

“I condemn any act of retaliation and call on the international community to work together to prevent any further development that could lead to devastating consequences for the entire region and beyond,” Guterres wrote.

This Friday, an air attack was recorded in the central region of Iran. According to a United States official interviewed by CNN, the attack was carried out by Israel.

The attack occurred less than a week after Iran launched, on Saturday (13), an offensive with more than 200 drones and missiles into the territory of Israel.

According to Tehran authorities, the action was in retaliation for an attack allegedly carried out by Israel that targeted and killed officers at the Iranian embassy in Syria on April 1.

Also this Friday, a man was arrested after breaking into the Iranian embassy in Paris, France. He was suspected of carrying a bomb – later, after searching, the police found no explosives on him.
