UN shows concern about invasion of Mexican embassy in Quito

The Secretary-General of the UN (United Nations), António Guterres, expressed concern this Sunday (7) about the forced entry of Ecuadorian security agents into the facilities of the Mexican Embassy in Quito, on Friday (5).

Guterres reaffirmed the principle of inviolability of diplomatic and consular facilities and personnel, highlighting that this principle is fundamental and must be respected in all cases, in accordance with international law.

The invasion, according to the secretary-general, represents a threat to the search for normal international relations, which are crucial for advancing cooperation between States. “Violations of this principle put at risk the stability and trust necessary for collaboration between nations,” Guterres emphasized.

Faced with this scenario, the secretary-general appealed for moderation, urging both governments involved to resolve their differences through peaceful means. “It is essential that all parties involved act with moderation and seek solutions through dialogue and respect for international law,” highlighted Guterres.
