A student at the University of Brasília (UnB) was arrested, this Wednesday (12), after being identified as the author of threatening messages found in the bathroom of the Faculty of Communication (FAC) of the institution. The student was recognized by security cameras at the site, which were passed on to the Civil Police of the Federal District.
The threat was made on Tuesday (11), where “massacre in the FAC” was written on the bathroom wall and a swastika – the main symbol of Nazism – was drawn. The message also said that the act would take place this Wednesday (12). In a note, UnB reported that the student was also the author of threats found in other spaces of the institution.
The student’s identity has not been revealed. According to the university, the author of the threats will be accountable to the courts and respond to disciplinary administrative proceedings. “The Superior Administration is also evaluating the adoption of a precautionary measure, such as a preventive suspension for the duration of the administrative process. Steps will also be taken to verify the participation of any collaborators within the university environment”, wrote UnB.
Due to the threat, some FAC professors released students from the obligation to attend classes. In a note, the university reported that activities are maintained.
“Incitement to crime and actions of intolerance, violence and prejudice are not and will never be tolerated at the University of Brasília”, wrote UnB. The FAC informed the students that it had no information about the author of the threats.
A reinforced security scheme was established at the institution and UnB is in contact with the Civil Police of the Federal District and the Federal Police. The institution is located in the center of the federal capital, less than five kilometers away from the Esplanada dos Ministérios.
