In an event classified as a miracle, 30 people survived an accident in Nicaragua, including the Susucayan Futbol Club (FC), from the local Third Division, when the bus they were traveling in fell into an abyss.
The mishap occurred in the department (province) of Nueva Segovia, near the border with Honduras, when the driver Martín Sarantes Zelaya, 27, lost control of the bus when taking a banked curve, falling 50 meters deep.
According to firefighters and paramedics, no deaths were recorded, but 26 were injured, including four fans, one of them preschool age.
Those involved were taken to the nearest hospital by civilian drivers who showed solidarity.
Witnesses released images of the accident in which the bus can be seen completely destroyed on the side of the cliff, 50 meters deep, and injured youths trying to get on the road in search of help.
José Rodolfo López, director of Susucayan FC, confirmed that the accident occurred a few kilometers from reaching their destination, where they would face FC Quilalí, a match that was finally suspended.
The young people are still receiving medical assistance, their relatives are already with them and they hope they will have a speedy recovery.
On the other hand, the authorities are still evaluating the situation of the driver, in order to determine charges against him.
