Uncle Paulo case: Niece leaves Bangu prison (RJ)

Érika de Souza Vieira, Uncle Paulo's niece, elderly man who was taken to a bank branch already dead left the Djanira Dolores de Oliveira Penal Institute, in Bangu, Rio de Janeiro, on the afternoon of this Thursday (2).

The woman who tried to take out a bank loan in the name of the deceased elderly man in a wheelchair was denounced and became a defendant for attempted embezzlement and vilification of a corpse.

Judge Luciana Mocco, from the 2nd Criminal Court of the Bangu Region, decided to accept the complaint and revoke his preventive detention, replacing it with precautionary measures.

According to the decision of the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice, there were no requirements for maintaining preventive detention, such as the defendant's dangerousness and risk to public order.

Érika was admitted to the Oscar Stevenson Penal Institute on April 17 and was transferred to the Djanira Dolores de Oliveira Penal Institute, after her preventive detention was confirmed in a custody hearing.

Precautionary measures

After release and revocation of preventive detention, Érika de Souza Vieira will need to comply with precautionary measures such as:

  • Monthly attendance at the registry office;
  • Communication in case of change of address or hospitalization for mental health treatment;
  • Prohibition on being absent from the district for more than seven days without judicial authorization
