Firefighters managed Monday night to “control” the fire raging on Saturday at the main port of Iran, after a deadly explosion attributed to “negligence”, according to Iranian officials. This morning, dense smoke was still rising from containers at the port of Sahid Rajai, southern Iran, where the explosion claimed the lives of at least 70 people, while the injured are hundreds. “The fire was under control and it is no longer left to clean the affected zone,” a local Iranian Red Crescent official, Mohtar Salahsur, told state television. The strategic port of Sahid Ratzai is located near the large coastal town of Bandar Abbas, in Strait of Hormuz, about 1,000 kilometers south of Tehran.
