Physical education student Kauan Gomes, aged 20, died last Tuesday (17) after spending four days hospitalized in Feira de Santana, in the interior of Bahia. He was hit in the head by a gunshot on Friday (13), while he was in a car with his mother and a friend.
According to the Civil Police of Bahia, Kauan was shot by mistake while heading to the gym, in the Sobradinho neighborhood, on Avenida Francisco Fraga Maia. Despite being rescued, he did not survive his injuries.
According to investigations, the shooter, a man who was in a black vehicle, was chasing his partner at the time of the crime.
“The accused was in a bar on Avenida Fraga Maia, together with his partner, on Thursday (12), and spent the night there. In the morning, on Friday (13), the couple had an argument. The woman took the key and ID from the suspect’s motorcycle and crossed the avenue. Then, she asked for a ride to a white vehicle that was passing by, entered and left the scene”, explained the head delegate of the Homicide Police Station, Gustavo Coutinho.
The police found that, jealous of her and under the influence of alcohol and drugs, the man asked a friend to accompany him to follow the white car, believing that his companion was in it. During the chase, the suspect committed the crime, hitting Kauan by mistake.
“At the time, he was in possession of a revolver and fired a shot into the air. Soon after, the accused shot at the white car in which Kauan was traveling, believing it to be the vehicle in which the woman was traveling,” added the police chief.
According to the police, after the crime, the suspects fled to the city of Pé de Serra, where they spent the day, later returning to Feira de Santana. They threatened and assaulted the woman so that she would remain silent about what happened.
According to the Civil Police, the driver of the black vehicle was questioned, but the shooter remains at large. “He is a very violent man and is already responsible for drug trafficking, robbery and domestic violence. We already represent the preventive detention of those involved”, highlighted delegate Lorena Almeida, head of the 2nd Territorial Police Station of Feira de Santana.
The revolver used in the crime and the car were seized and will undergo forensic examination. “As soon as we became aware of the fact, the teams began investigations. We requested a vehicle inspection, images from security cameras and heard from several witnesses,” said the delegate.
