Under threat of looting, Porto Alegre Airport is now protected by the PF

The Tactical Operations Command (COT) of the Federal Police (PF) took over security at Salgado Filho International Airport, in Porto Alegre (RS), this Wednesday (8). The reinforcement in protection comes after threats of looting at the site, which has operations suspended indefinitely due to the floods affecting the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

Agents must also support PF patrolling actions on flooded roads, to provide security for rescue actions for people who have to leave their homes. Amid the state of calamity, criminals have been looting homes and establishments and stealing boats with supplies.

The group arrived on Tuesday night (07) in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul and specializes in high-risk and highly complex situations, according to the PF.

Another 350 PFl employees work in the rescue and safety of volunteers, using boats and rescue vessels, helicopters, drones, night vision equipment and watercraft. Two thousand homeless people and 600 animals in the regions of Porto Alegre, Canoas and Eldorado do Sul in Operation Esperança were rescued by the agents.
