The new decree establishes that no convicted foreigner may enter Argentina and that if a foreigner commit a crime in the country, regardless of the sentence, he will be deported.

In addition, “temporary, transient and irregular residents” will be required to pay for health services and will also need health insurance when entering Argentina.

Regarding universities, institutions will be allowed to establish “rates for university educational services for temporary residents”. In any case, access to elementary and high school will be maintained to all residents, who can access these services in the same way as Argentine citizens.

Another important point of the decree concerns the obtaining of the citizenship card, and the requirements were also hardened.

From now on, the card will only be granted to those who have continually resided in Argentina for two years or have made “a significant investment” in the country.

In addition, for permanent residence, it will be necessary to prove “sufficient subsistence means” and absence of criminal record.
