Emotional intelligence is the human ability to manage feelings and emotions in order to have more control over instinctive responses to different external stimuli.

In this Monday’s edition (25) of the Medical Correspondentfrom Novo Dia, neurosurgeon Fernando Gomes explained the main mechanisms associated with human emotions.

“What is a person who has a well-developed emotional intelligence? Ability to deal with emotions and requires a balance mainly between the cognitive manifestation that we have in the limbic system, which is the innermost part of the brain that correlates with emotions, and the abilities that exist in each of the hemispheres”, he explains. .

Managing emotions in pursuit of emotional intelligence involves balancing the areas present in the two hemispheres of the brain: the left and the right.

“A person with a balanced and well-developed emotional intelligence is capable of dampening stimuli that often end up being judged in an inappropriate way from the point of view of social interaction”, says Gomes.

“We need to create a routine and have some mechanisms that allow us to rebalance our emotions. Respecting moments of rest, sleep is something that, if it ends up being compromised, can lead the individual to have an emotional inability. Practices such as sports and even meditation are situations that make us able to manage and understand our emotions”, he guides.

If the search for healthier lifestyle habits can help the body to respond in a more balanced way to external stimuli, reflection on what causes unbalanced individual reactions can help to avoid new crises.
