The WaterTok Danger

While it just seems like a different method of encouraging water intake, many experts are concerned about the impact additives can have on health.

According to nutritionist Gabriela Chamello, the consumption of water with an excessive amount of sugar can affect organisms in different ways, mainly due to the fact that daily intake generates insulin spikes, and also induces hunger throughout the day.

“This condition can cause what we call insulin resistance and bring about several problems, such as: increased body fat, difficulty gaining muscle mass, fatigue and even more serious problems in the long term, such as pre-diabetes and even diabetes, ovaries. polycystics”, comments Gabriela.

Despite being consumed as a low-calorie drink, the nutritionist informs that “the sugars present in these syrups and flavorings can even exceed the individual daily requirements”. As a suggestion, she points out that the water should be prepared using natural elements: spices such as cinnamon, cardamom, cloves; miscellaneous herbs, such as mint, lemon grass, fennel; rhizomes such as ginger and citrus fruits: orange, lemon, Persian lime.

In the long term, Chemello warns that ingestion can cause some harm to health, from the appearance of acne and allergies, to even “liver damage due to the excess fructose present in these syrups and flavorings”, he adds.
