Many delegates were seen wearing white at Chicago’s McCormick Place Convention Center on Thursday (22), with the color of the suffrage movement represented on jackets, dresses, suits, jumpsuits and skirts.
The news spread organically through email and message boards, where white-clad delegates told CNN this Thursday.
When Vice President Kamala Harris takes the stage Thursday night (22) at the Democratic National Convention, she will be greeted by a sea of white.
“I wanted to join in the support of our future first lady president, to show her that we support her, we support other women and we uplift them,” said Nebraska Delegate Charli Earth.
Hundreds of women walked out of a women’s political rally Thursday morning, where most attendees were briefed on the dress code. While most of those dressed in white were women, there were also a few men dressed in white in solidarity.
“All the women are wearing white, and all of our allies are wearing white and showing their support for us. So it makes you feel very special, very loving, and we’re about to make history,” said Mo Jenkins of Texas.
Female members of Congress had previously agreed to wear white for State of the Union addresses. “I think it’s appropriate today, as the party nominates a woman — the first Black woman, a South Asian woman. Let’s thank all those who came before us and made this possible today,” shared Rep. Sara Jacobs of California.
