Unemployment Benefit Claims Fall More Than Expected, Lowest Since November

The U.S. Department of Labor reported that Initial claims for unemployment benefits fell by 42,000 to 712,000 in the week ending March 6. It is the lowest reading since early November and it was better than the market consensus which was 725,000.

The continued unemployment benefit claims they fell by 193,000 to 4,144,000 in the week ending February 27. In this way, a new low in almost a year. It is the eighth weekly drop in a row. The expectation was 4.22 million.

The data had no impact on the market. Attention is focused on the statements of Chirstine Lagarde, the president of the European Central Bank (ECB) and later the placement of 30-year debt in the US will be closely followed.
