Unemployment in the eurozone hit a record low in February as the economy continued to recover from the pandemic, even as energy prices rose sharply due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The European Union’s statistical office, Eurostat, said unemployment in the eurozone fell to 6.8% of the workforce in February from a revised 6.9% in January.
In Greece the percentage decreased to 11.9% from 16.2% in February 2022 and from 12.8% in January 2022.
6.8% is the lowest percentage since 1998 when the data began to be recorded. Economists expected a drop to 6.7%.
Eurostat said 11.155 million people were out of work in the eurozone in February, down from 11.336 million a month ago.
