The unemployment rate in Brazil stood at 9.3% in the quarter ended in June, down 1.8 percentage points from the previous quarter, the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) reported this Friday (29) . It is the lowest level for the period since 2015, when the rate was 8.4%. Data are from Pnad Contínua (Continuous National Household Sample Survey).
According to the IBGE, the number of unemployed dropped 15.6% in relation to the previous quarter, reaching 10.1 million people. This represents 1.9 million fewer people looking for work in the country.
“The retraction of the unemployment rate in the second quarter follows a movement already observed in other years. In 2022, however, the sharpest drop in this rate was caused by the significant increase in the employed population compared to the first quarter”, highlights the research coordinator, Adriana Beringuy.
