Unemployment rate remains stable in 21 Brazilian states in the 3rd quarter, says IBGE

The unemployment rate remained statistically stable in 21 of the 27 Federation units from the second quarter of 2022 to the third quarter, according to data from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (Continuous PNAD) released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics ( IBGE). The result means that the oscillation was within the survey’s margin of error.

Only six states had a statistically significant reduction in the unemployment rate in the period: Paraná, Minas Gerais, Maranhão, Acre, Ceará and Rondônia.

In the third quarter, the highest unemployment rates were those of Bahia (15.1%), Pernambuco (13.9%) and Rio de Janeiro (12.3%).

The lowest rates occurred in Rondônia (3.9%), Mato Grosso (3.8%) and Santa Catarina (3.8%).

On the national average, the unemployment rate dropped from 9.3% in the second quarter to 8.7% in the third quarter of this year.

In São Paulo, the result decreased from 9.2% to 8.6%, a movement considered stable within the margin of error.
