Lawyer Alexander Neves Lopes, who was dismissed by Paulo Cupertino during the popular jury session that took place this Thursday afternoon (10), at the Barra Funda Forum, he said that the defendant “is playing a game that everyone (sic) is buying”.
The dismissal occurred moments after the testimony from Cupertino’s daughter Isabela Tibcherani.
Cupertino understood that there was a breach of trust between him and the lawyer during the testimonies. As a result, it will be necessary to appoint a new lawyer.
According to Lopes, the defendant claims that a “circus” was created so that he could be convicted. “He unfortunately is not cooperating with anything,” he said.

The now former defense also stated that he was allowed to wear ordinary clothes during the jury and that he was without handcuffs, but due to his condition, their use became necessary.
Cupertino had asked the court to wear ordinary clothes, instead of the penitentiary uniform, as this would not result in an “early trial” and thus “would not compromise his image before the jury”.
For the prosecution, the strategy of dismissing the lawyer and thus dissolving the jury was something agreed between the defendant and the defense team.
“I warned that the defense would act cunningly to prevent this trial, that is exactly what happened today, in the 45th minute of the second half, the defense lawyer was removed. What will happen now? A deadline will open again, appointing a new lawyer and he will not appoint a lawyer right away, he will wait for the deadline, where the public defender’s office will come in, in about 40 days and the public defender’s office will appoint the new defense. When the defender is determined, there will be a deadline again, he will dismiss again and will hire other private lawyers, that is, two, three, four months in the future, unfortunately” highlighted Ricardo Marinho, lawyer for Isabela (daughter) and Vanessa Tibcherani (ex from Cupertino).
However, the defense denied the hypothesis, stating that the Public Prosecutor’s Office understood the situation.
The São Paulo Court of Justice informed that everything will have to be done again, because a new Sentencing Council will be formed.
Therefore, there is no date for a new trial.
Testimonials
With the dismissal of the lawyers, the statements were annulled. Earlier, Paulo Cupertino’s ex-partner and mother of daughter, Vanessa Tibcherani Matias Camargo, confirmed the abusive relationship between father and daughter.
Vanessa told the jury that Paulo Cupertino took away his daughter’s freedom . The statement corroborates the prosecution’s thesis, arguing that the crime was premeditated and motivated by Cupertino’s non-compliance with his daughter’s relationship with Rafael Miguel.
Furthermore, the defendant’s ex-partner also said that she “drank a lot to forget” everything that happened.
After the statement made to the prosecution, Cupertino’s defenders asked her if she had been drinking this Thursday (10), to try to disqualify her. Vanessa replied no.
During her testimony, at the Barra Funda Criminal Forum, in the West Zone of São Paulo, she stated that Cupertino even took her daughter’s cell phone, Isabela Tibcherani Matias, when he found out that she was in a relationship with Rafael. According to her, Cupertino and Isabela never got along.
THE ex-partner even said he was a “mythomaniac” and avoided saying his name throughout the statement. She also reported that there were numerous cases of aggression that she suffered. Vanessa and her daughter had asked to be heard without the presence of the defendant, which did not happen.
The daughter stated that was kept in private prison for eight months after her father discovered her relationship with former actor Rafael Miguel.
According to Isabela, Cupertino completely isolated her, with no access to her cell phone or contact with other people.
“I was imprisoned for eight months, without interacting with anyone, just receiving messages from a friend” he declared.
She explained that she was confined to a room where she could not see the street.
“There was only one window in the bathroom, which faced directly onto my father’s business,” he said.
Fear and violence
Isabela said that, as soon as her father found out about the relationship, he went to pick her up from school, claiming that her mother was hurt.
“I was very afraid of him. He called me all names and locked me in the house.” reported.
During the testimony, which lasted around 50 minutes, Isabela also detailed the violent behavior of her father, accused of the triple homicide that occurred on June 9, 2019.
“My mother always had a swollen face, a broken nose, machete marks on her back and bruises on her body,” he reported.
The crime
The crime took place on June 9, 2019. Cupertino managed to escape the authorities for three years, only being captured in May 2022 in an apartment in the south of São Paulo, after going through around 100 addresses in at least three countries – Brazil , Paraguay and Argentina.
According to the complaint from the Public Ministry of São Paulo, Cupertino maintained a possession relationship with his daughter, Isabela Tibecherani Matias and did not accept that the young woman had a relationship with the former actor of the children’s soap opera Rafael Miguel.
