The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said today that the situation in Ukraine was deteriorating rapidly following the Russian invasion and called on neighboring countries to keep their borders open for people seeking safe haven.
“We already have reports of casualties and people have begun to flee their homes in search of safety,” said Philippe Granty, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has announced that it has intensified its operations and is working with the Ukrainian authorities to provide greater humanitarian assistance.
It also co-operates with neighboring governments “which it calls on to keep their borders open to those seeking security and protection”, the statement said.
