UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) says that one of its vehicles was hit by “live ammunition” while waiting to enter northern Gaza from the south of the territory this Wednesday (10).
In a statement released this Thursday (11), UNICEF says that the “incident has been discussed with the relevant Israeli authorities.”
“Unfortunately, humanitarians continue to face risks in delivering life-saving aid,” the statement added. “Unless humanitarian workers are protected in accordance with international law, humanitarian aid cannot reach people in need.”
A CNN contacted the IDF about the incident but has not yet received a response.
The incident comes just one day after the Israeli agency that coordinates the inspection and delivery of humanitarian assistance to Gaza, COGAT, blamed the UN for failing to deliver aid through Gaza.
