Berlin senator and former mayor Franziska Giffay became the latest victim in a series of attacks on German politicians when a man hit her from behind with a heavy object inside a local library, police said today. Gifai, the local government's finance minister and a member of Chancellor Olaf Solz's Social Democratic Party, was slightly injured in the attack, police and the local prosecutor's office said. The release states that a man hit her in the head and neck with a bag containing something hard and then ran away. The statement adds that Gifai was taken to the hospital for a short time to treat the pain.
