Petrobras leads an initiative in the sector, together with ten companies gathered at the Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas (IBP), to expand the reach of its program for access to cooking gas, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), to consumers low-income.
The operation will be in charge of four institutions with experience in this type of work, which will also be partners of the state-owned company in the distribution to families in vulnerable situations, throughout the country.
Together with Petrobras, the companies Baker Hughes, Enauta, GNA, Infotec Brasil, PetroRio, Repsol Sinopec Brasil, Schlumberger, Subsea 7, TechnipFMC and Vibra are participating in the project. These companies indicated social projects supported by them and the idea is that the families that are part of these initiatives receive help from Petrobras.
In addition, Petrobras has partnered with four non-profit institutions nationwide – Ação da Cidadania, Central Única das Favelas (Cufa), Gerando Falcões and Movimento União BR.
They will distribute aid to around 270,000 other families this year, in the five regions of the country. More than 1 million people will benefit, with up to five deliveries per family.
“Each one of the actors adds their characteristics and resources that, added together, are capable of taking everything we intend to do from paper. It is an exponential gain in scale to deliver, with opportunity, what is needed to those who need it most”, said the president of Petrobras, Joaquim Silva e Luna.
In addition to the partnership with companies in the sector and non-profit institutions with national reach, Petrobras informed, in a press release, that it is developing other lines of action in its social program for access to cooking gas.
The actions total R$ 300 million and will benefit more than 4 million people, directly and indirectly, by the end of this year.
They involve the donation of aid for the purchase of cooking gas and food baskets for families living in communities surrounding the operational units, together with partner institutions of the company in socio-environmental projects; the delivery of grants for the acquisition of LPG to families benefiting from the solidarity campaign ‘Brasileiros pelo Brasil’, through a partnership between Petrobras and Fundação Banco do Brasil; and the donation for the purchase of cooking gas for a non-profit institution that provides food for homeless people in large urban centers.
