Unions react Trump’s plan to end education department

The union that represents the education department officials said it was “outraged” with President Donald Trump’s efforts to start dismantling the folder.

In a statement made on Thursday (20), the national president of the American Federation of Public Officials, Everett Kelley, said that the “Trump Directive to eliminate this small but powerful agency would destroy our educational system and devastate future generations of students.”

The union also argued that the Department of Education offers support to low -income students and finances schools that could not otherwise offer services to students with disabilities.

Meanwhile, the Legal Democracy Forward organization said it intends to contest Trump’s order in court, arguing that the president’s efforts to dismantle the department are illegal.

“We will file a lawsuit against this measure and use all legal resources to ensure that the rights of students, teachers and families are fully protected,” said the organization’s CEO Skye Perryman in a statement.
