United Airlines sees jump in international flights after Covid testing ends

United Airlines is seeing growth in demand for international travel after the United States ended its Covid-19 negative test requirement for anyone arriving in the country via air travel.

Airlines were pushing the White House to end the measure, arguing that the requirement prevented a full-scale recovery in the industry.

The US on Friday rescinded the rule imposed in January 2021.

Analysts expect the move to be a “catalyst” for international travel.

United Airlines, which has the most exposure to international traffic among the industry’s top carriers in the US, said it recorded more than 2.4 million searches for international travel in the last 72 hours, up 7% from the previous week. .

About 1.5 million of the searches involved travel from the United States to international destinations including Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean, the airline said.

US airlines are enjoying one of the strongest quarters in recent industry history, buoyed by a surge in travel.

All major operators have raised revenue projections for the current quarter despite the capacity reduction.

Betting on pent-up demand, United has ramped up its transatlantic service and is launching or resuming 30 flights this summer in the Northern Hemisphere.
