United Arab Emirates promises Lula to send three planes with donations to RS

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) spoke by telephone this Thursday (16) with the president of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The conversation lasted about half an hour and the Emirati president confirmed to President Lula that he will send three planes to Brazil in the coming days, with donations in support of Rio Grande do Sul.

Donations were collected mainly by the Brazilian community that lives in the country.

Through social media, Lula thanked the United Arab Emirates for its solidarity with the population of Rio Grande do Sul.

“I spoke by phone with Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the United Arab Emirates, who informed me of the sending of three planes from the country to Brazil with donations in support of Rio Grande do Sul in the coming days. I thanked the gesture of solidarity with the men and women of Rio Grande do Sul”, wrote Lula.

According to the Communication Secretariat of Palácio do Planalto, Lula recalled the floods that hit Dubai in April, and which also impacted the United Arab Emirates. Lula reinforced that the episodes “demonstrate the urgency and seriousness of the issue of climate change”.

In addition to the disaster in Rio Grande do Sul, the presidents also spoke about “an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the guarantee of humanitarian aid and a negotiated solution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine”.

During the conversation, Lula invited Sheikh Mohammed to visit Brazil, with the intention of strengthening the economic partnership between the two countries.

At least seven countries have already expressed their intention to help Brazil in supporting the population affected by the tragedy in the south. According to Itamaraty, Argentina, Chile, the United States, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela have also offered donations.
