United Kingdom: Retail sales rise 1.2% monthly in April compared to 0.2% expected

The Retail sales of the United Kingdom recalled 1.2% intermensual in April After advancing 0.1% in March (reviewed from 0.4%), according to the latest data published on Friday by the National Statistics Office (ONS). The markets were waiting for a 0.2% increase in the informed month.

Retail sales excluding fuel increased by 1.3% intermensual, compared to the previous review of 0.2% and the estimated reading of 0.3%.

Annual retail sales in the United Kingdom rose 5.0% in April compared to 1.9% in March, while basic retail sales also grew 5.3% in the same month compared to the previous review of 2.6%. Both figures exceeded market expectations.

Market reaction to the United Kingdom Retail Sales Report

The GBP/USD attracts some buyers in an immediate reaction to the good data of the United Kingdom, negotiating 0.29% higher in the day at 1,3457 at the time of writing.
