Washington and Moscow officials have discussed discussions on the US contribution to the rejuvenation of Russian gas sales in Europe, eight sources knowing the content of the talks told Reuters. Sources close to bilateral discussions said that the design of a refreshed role for Moscow in the European Union’s natural gas market could help to establish a peace deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Although a large part of Europe sought alternative supplies, some buyers remained and officials in the industry say more could return once a peace deal was implemented. As for Russia, nothing has hurt its economy more than the loss of much of the European gas market three years ago.
