United States deported 142,000 irregular immigrants, says department

The United States Department of Internal Security announced on Tuesday that authorities deported more than 142,000 irregular immigrants since Donald Trump took the second term as president.

This number is slightly higher than the announced on Monday (28) by Tom Homan, responsible for the federal government border. He had said that 139,000 people were expelled from the country in the period.

The federal immigration data often change, and the deportation figures released by the government include all agencies involved in repatriations, not just the immigration and customs service.

For years, several internal security department agencies reproved people. This includes US border customs and border protection, which returns people detained at sea.

Below, a detail of the data obtained by the CNN, covering the period since January 21:

  • US Customs and Border Protection: 66,939 thousand deported
  • US immigration and customs: 65,682 thousand deported
  • “Autosaídas”: Known: 9.136 thousand
  • US coastal guard: 371 Deportations

The deportations for US immigration and customs are still below the same period last year, under the government of President Joe Biden, but a key factor at the time was the largest number of people who cross the border, which boosts repatriations by the agency.

The latest numbers reflect the challenges that the Trump government still faces by trying to overcome the limitation of resources and agents available to arrest people inside the US and deport them.
