United States is “committed” to Israel’s security, says Biden

US President Joe Biden publicly addressed Iran's attack on Israel over the weekend for the first time, saying he remains focused on Israel's security and pursuing a ceasefire and hostage agreement as he works to prevent for the conflict to escalate into a wider regional war.

“The United States is committed to Israel’s security. We are committed to a ceasefire that will bring the hostages home and prevent the conflict from spreading further than it already has,” Biden said at the White House.

The president made the comments as he welcomed Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani to the Oval Office amid ongoing tension in the region and concerns about US forces.

“We are also committed to the security of our people and partners in the region, including Iraq,” Biden said. “The partnership between Iraq and the United States is critical.”
