United States: “vaxxies”, selfies of vaccines, invade social networks

A smile under the mask and a needle stuck in the shoulder… In the United States, more and more people are posting their “vaxxia”, a selfie of their vaccine against Covid-19, on social networks, says CNN. Personalities like Joe Biden, 46e President of the United States, Vice President Kamala Harris or American immunologist Anthony Fauci have published a photograph or video of their vaccination against the coronavirus.

To be vaccinated and to prove it with pride: this is the credo of the followers of “vaxxie”, a word constructed by combining “vaccine” and “selfie”. Beyond the personalities, many members of the nursing staff present their vaccine with slogans such as “Do not throw away our doses of vaccine”.

Stop the pandemic

With nearly 350,000 deaths from Covid-19, the United States is the most bereaved country in the world by the pandemic. Faced with the resurgence of contamination after the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, the authorities have started the vaccination campaign on the hats of wheels in the hope of stemming the pandemic.

Already nearly 2.8 million Americans have been vaccinated against the coronavirus since the launch of the campaign. But, faced, as in France, with anti-tax movements, convinced Americans are trying to encourage their compatriots.

Being vaccinated, a source of pride

“If you can get the vaccine, do it. It’s about saving lives, ”said future Vice President Kamala Harris. The elected Democrat Joe Biden, he writes: “I have absolute confidence in the vaccine and I look forward to the second inoculation. “In view of the many Internet users who reproduce the staging of their vaccination as one displays their electoral card after voting, the vaccine against Covid-19 is becoming, for some, a source of pride across the Atlantic.

However, others are annoyed by this fashion, like a net surfer whose tweet was relayed by CNN: “I’m starting to get really irritated by these vaccination selfies, because the only thing to which I am makes you think, it’s “OK they can go to concerts now”.
