Univaja disagrees with the PF on the absence of a criminal mastermind against indigenist and journalist

The Union of Indigenous Organizations of Vale do Javari (Univaja) stated in a note this Friday (17) that it disagrees with the thesis of the Federal police that the disappearance of the Brazilian indigenist Bruno Pereira and the British journalist Dom Philips did not have a mastermind, with the five current suspects acting alone.

The organization said that the PF’s position “disregards the qualified information, offered by Univaja in numerous letters, since the second half of 2021”.

According to the note, the documents would point to the existence of an organized criminal group acting in “constant” invasions of the Indigenous Land. Javari Valley at the amazon . The group, made up of professional hunters and fishermen, would be involved in the murder of Pereira and Philips.

“We describe the names of the invaders, members of the criminal organization, their methods of action, how they enter and leave the indigenous land, the illicit items they carry, the types of vessels they use in their illegal activities,” says the organization.

Univaja also stated that it was because of this information that Pereira became one of the targets of the group, as well as other members of the union, who would be receiving death threats.

For the organization, a press release issued by the PF this Friday corroborates the fact that “the competent authorities, responsible for the territorial protection and of our lives, have ignored our complaints, minimizing the damages, even after the murders of our partners, Pereira and Phillips”.

Univaja’s assessment is that the “refinement of cruelty” in the way Pereira and Philips were allegedly killed indicates that they were “in the way” of a criminal organization, which tried to cover its tracks during the investigation.

“This context shows that it is not just about two executioners, but an organized group that minimally planned the details of this crime. We demand the continuity and deepening of the investigations. our jobs. Only then will we have the opportunity to live in peace again in our territory, Vale do Javari”, concludes the note.
