University of Cincinnati Opens Cryptocurrency Lab

The American University of Cincinnati in Ohio has included the study of cryptocurrencies and blockchain for students in its curriculum.

Courses should start at the beginning of the new academic year. The programs are going to be sponsored by two longtime university patrons Dan Kautz and Woodrow Uible.

“Thanks to Dan and Woody, our students will receive hands-on education in the new field of financial technology. Students will learn how to manage cryptocurrencies and how such digital assets affect the economy. The new program will position the university as a regional leader among the best universities in the country whose students also study cryptocurrencies,” said Dean Marianne Lewis.

Donations from patrons will create a public-private laboratory that intends to cooperate with the Ledger company, which agreed to help in research. The laboratory will host its own installation for mining cryptocurrencies.

According to Woodrow Weeble, blockchain and cryptocurrencies are at the forefront of business innovation and process management, so it is important that Cincinnati students learn new technologies:

“We believe that students need to become familiar with the process of trading cryptocurrencies and work with the blockchain. This experience is much more valuable and meaningful than just studying a textbook.”

Previously, Arizona State University filed an application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for registration of brands associated with collectible tokens and the metaverse.
