University of Michigan Consumer Confidence Index unexpectedly drops to 82.8 in May

The US University of Michigan consumer sentiment index fell to 82.8 in May, according to the preliminary report, from 88.3 registered in April. The data generated surprise since a rise to 90.4 was expected.

The report highlights that the Current Conditions Index dropped to 90.8 from 97.2 and the Consumer Expectations Index dropped to 77.6 from 82.7. Regarding the inflation expectationsThese rose to one year from 3.4% to 4.6%.
