A new policy of Google Photos came into effect today, which stopped providing unlimited storage space for high-quality photos. The service was launched in May 2015 and today it stores over 4 trillion photos.
The policy change was announced late last year. If you’ve only relied on Google Photos to back up all of your pictures and videos, you’ll have to think about free storage space for your photos and videos.
Starting June, every Google Photos user will receive only 15 GB of free disk space for free (previously uploaded content does not count). Any media you download after June 1 that exceeds this free 15GB will require a paid subscription.
Owners of previously released Google smartphones will not feel the change. They will continue to have free unlimited storage with varying photo quality depending on the smartphone model.
