Unmissable Italian Restaurants in Bordeaux, by Daniela Filomeno

Separated by a 488-kilometer border, the France it’s at Italy share several attributes, but one of them is special: the meal. And it is on French territory that some Italian restaurants stand out among the wonders of the country.

And it’s not just Paris which is filled with little corners of Italy: Bordeaux, the wine capital of the world, Daniela Filomeno’s first international destination on CNN Viagem & Gastronomia, also has delicious and popular addresses that take us directly to the “country of the boot”.

Modern, starry, rustic or seasonal, there is a variety of houses that serve from pasta, foccacias, sweets and the best of Italy. Below, check out a selection of Italian restaurants to delight in Bordeaux:

Temptations

Commanded by a couple, she from Brittany and he from Sardinia, the Temptations is considered one of the best Italian restaurants in Bordeaux. Its Michelin star makes that clearer, but it’s the creative food that draws praise from customers and critics.

With tables placed on the sidewalk and inside a lounge, Tentazioni is almost a discovery in the city, as its lights are dim at night. The menu changes weekly, and top-notch ingredients such as red tuna, lobster, spider crab, among others, result in combinations that immerse themselves in Italian traditions.

The house works with a tasting menu, which changes its type and value. The wine list is also extensive and contains good labels from France and Italy.

Fuxia

Modern, casual and fast. The Fuxia is located in the central region, right in front of the large and famous Place des Quinconces, meaning it is also well served by public transport.

Its facade is more withdrawn in relation to the street, with a few steps up to its green awning and its outdoor tables. The lounge is well lit by natural light and airy, where classics of Italian cuisine are served at the table, such as burrata and prosciutto and pieces of homemade breaded mozzarella for starters.

Among the main ones, pastas are the central orders: rigatoni, penne, linguine and pappardelle. Lasagna, risotto and various pizzas with an Italian flavor are also on the set menu, along with typical desserts, including panna cotta, tiramisù and a dose of limoncello with lemon ice cream.

Peppone

It is an authentic piece of Italy in the heart of Bordeaux. As the city – and France – dictates, the tables of the Peppone are on the sidewalk and also inside a more rustic room. Busy, the house usually has a waiting list and a buzz.

Although the menu contains several pastas, meats and the most traditional appetizers of the “country of the boot”, Peppone is known for its thin and fresh pizzas and quality ingredients.

There are from the simplest ones, such as Romana, with tomato and mozzarella, to the more elaborate ones, such as Cochonne, which uses tomato, onion, mozzarella, breadsticks, Parma ham, mortadella, speck and spalla cotta. The dishes are generous and the cellar is well diversified. It’s a nice surprise!

Osteria da Luigi

Located in a narrow street in the old centre, the Osteria da Luigi is a cozy Italian restaurant in the heart of Bordeaux. Opened in 2008, its friendly atmosphere tries to convey an “Italian way of life”, with posters of movies and Italian culture on the exposed stone walls.

The menu is short as the house works with a menu that changes every two weeks, offering dishes with fresh and quality products. Pasta, meat, creamy cheeses and cold cuts are some of the delights here.

The Veneto

O The Veneto it is, on the whole, a friendly house. Located in the elegant Allées de Tourny address, full of shops and a short walk from Place des Quinconces, the house has a terrace and tables located near the kitchen – but also some more reserved corners for dinner for two.

The menu is not very extensive but it does the job of offering refined Italian cuisine, such as artisanal pasta (such as tagliatelle with truffle cream, ravioli with parmesan cream and carbonara), risottos and meats – mostly veal. The wine list is based on the accent of the house and also where you live, with a mix of Italian and French labels (mostly from Bordeaux).
