On March 30, Apple expanded the Independent Repair Provider (IRP) program by announcing it in Russia. Now unofficial workshops can get access to original company parts at the same price as partners. However, in return, Russian service centers must “play” by the rules of an American corporation. Service representatives shared their thoughts on this matter on the VC pages.
At the moment, the main problem is the lack of full terms and conditions from the American company. For example, some Russian service centers believe that by signing an agreement, they may lose part of the services provided. For example, ApplePro and ModMac specialists are afraid that the regulations of the new program will prohibit the repair of buttons, loops and any other service previously provided by unauthorized centers.
Fixed One specialists, in turn, noted that they are interested in original spare parts and diagnostic tools. Moreover, they even applied to participate in the new program. However, if in the company’s terms there is a requirement to use only Apple parts, then, most likely, the service center will refuse the partnership.
Another disadvantage that the specialists highlighted is a significant rise in the cost of repair services. Genuine Apple parts cost a lot more than those purchased by service centers. For example, the cost of replacing a screen may increase by 5,000 or even 10,000 rubles, while the price of batteries will rise by about 3,000 rubles.
In addition, experts said that repairing equipment using original Apple spare parts may take longer. The fact is that some parts cannot be ordered for stock, since they are individual for each device. Therefore, consumers will have to wait an indefinite amount of time until the company sends the necessary.
However, apart from the minuses, the IRP also has pluses. The main advantage of the program is access to the company’s proprietary software, which will help specialists avoid mistakes during repairs. In addition, cooperation with Apple will increase the status of the service center in the Russian market, since consumers will be confident in the quality of the services provided.
Whether the new Apple program will become popular among unauthorized workshops will only become known after the specialists receive detailed partnership terms. However, we can already say that the IRP will help improve the quality of the services provided for the repair of Apple equipment.
