In an unprecedented decision, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has canceled a mission to Hungary on anti-bribery measures after the Hungarian government did not follow the Organization’s previous recommendations. A Hungarian government spokesman declined to comment on the OECD announcement, which it said was the first time the organization had canceled such a high-level mission. The meeting in Budapest was scheduled for today and tomorrow and the OECD complains that Viktor Orbán’s government has been unable to ensure adequate representation of the Hungarian side at the level of ministers and high-ranking officials. “The high-level mission decided by the Working Group on Bribery in December 2023 aimed to address the failure of the Hungarian government to make progress on long-standing recommendations,” the OECD statement said.
