Unreleased video shows 8k details of Titanic; watch

The 2022 Titanic Expedition, which features a team of divers, was able to capture never-before-seen 8k images of the Titanic ship, exposing a new level of detail and color. The footage was released on the OceanGate Expeditions YouTube channel on Tuesday (30).

The images provide scenes of the famous bow of the Titanic, the port anchor, the number one hull, a huge anchor chain (each link weighs approximately 200 pounds), and the cargo hold.

The ship sank 110 years ago, at dawn on the 14th to the 15th of April 1912, when the luxury liner collided with an iceberg in the North Atlantic around midnight, sinking in less than three hours.

There were 1,517 people killed and 706 survivors out of 2,223 passengers and crew, according to the US Senate report on the disaster.

“The astounding detail in the 8k images will help our team of marine scientists and archaeologists characterize the Titanic’s decay more accurately as we capture new images in 2023 and beyond,” said Stockton Rush, president of OceanGate Expeditions.

In the video, you can see the crane used to drop the massive 15-ton anchor still located on the deck of the wreck and the shackle that was originally attached to the main mast that has now collapsed.

It also shows evidence of decay, where part of the Titanic’s track collapsed and fell off the ship.

“Capturing this footage in 8K will allow us to zoom in and still have 4K quality, which is critical for large-screen, immersive video projects. Even more remarkable are the phenomenal colors in this footage,” Rush said.

“Having experts aboard the submersible Titan when we dive allows them to assess the wreck through direct observation, guide our exploration of different features of the wreck and continue their study using the images,” he continues.
