Unthinkable crime in the USA: 38-year-old shot and killed his roommate for a remote control

A Maryland man was arrested after allegedly shot and killing his roommate during an argument over a remote control, according to a statement from the local police. 38-year-old Springdale resident Richard Beno is accused of homicide victimized by 28-year-old Domonique Scott Hayes, which took place last week.

County police said on Instagram Friday that officers received a call around 12:30 p.m. last Thursday.

“The police found him dead inside the home where he lived suffering from gunshot wounds,” the police statement said. “The preliminary investigation revealed that Bennaugh shot the deceased during an argument,” authorities added. According to documents obtained by FOX 5 DC, Bennaugh called police about six hours after the shooting, which happened between 5:30 a.m. and 6 a.m.

According to her information New York Post, told them his roommate was “threatening him with knives.” Bennaugh told police he fell asleep on the couch and was awakened by Scott Hayes making a lot of noise in the kitchen.

Scott Hayes then repeatedly asked Bennaugh where the remote was, but the suspect ignored him. Bennaugh, who had a blanket over his head, removed the blanket and allegedly saw Scott Hayes holding two knives.

The suspect then grabbed his gun and began shooting before running to his room on the third floor. The 38-year-old claims he didn't see Scott Hayes injured, so he assumed none of the bullets hit him and went to sleep. Prince George's County police are asking anyone with information about the case to contact their homicide unit at 301-516-2512.
