By the end of the month, the method of implementation of the new central bus station in Eleonas is expected to be clarified, either through a PPP, or through a concession contract or as a public project.

It is also expected to immediately clarify who will be the body of the tender, as the area in which the new station will be built belongs to the Attiko Metro, the Municipality of Athens and the Municipality of Egaleo.

According to information, the goal is for the competition for the project, which is considered of utmost importance for the prefecture of Attica, to be announced by the end of the year. Its budget is estimated at 100m euros.

The new KTEL terminal in Eleonas, today is served by two intercity bus stations in Kifissos and Liossia, which operate having exceeded their capacity, while access to them is by road, car, taxi or city buses.

The opening of the super-station is expected to decongest central arteries, such as Liosion Street, Kifissou Avenue, but also Alexandras Avenue and the ring roads around Karaiskaki Square.

Based on the relevant design, the new central bus station in Eleonas, which will resemble a large airport terminal, will have a total area of ​​40,000 sq.m. It is expected to become a “landmark” for Athens, as it will be the most modern building not only in Greece but also worldwide.

The station will include commercial spaces of 11,750 sq.m., spaces of cultural interest 1,500 sq.m., parking spaces of 572 spaces and free green spaces of 20,000 sq.m.

This is a significant investment that will offer benefits first to the passenger public, to domestic and international transport, to employees but also to the region, as it will give growth impetus to the wider area of ​​Eleonas, while unloading the neighborhoods that currently host their facilities. two KTEL.

According to the design, the basic functions of the station also include a parcel handling center, commercial uses of offices, shops, a conference center and exhibition spaces as well as a tourist unit.
