Data presented by the Rio de Janeiro State Department of Health indicate that most admissions for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SRAG) in which the cause is Covid-19 are of unvaccinated people or with incomplete vaccination schedule. The most affected are adults 49 years of age or younger.
According to the folder, the data further reinforce the importance of completing the vaccination cycle, in addition to the booster dose.
“These data prove that those who receive all the immunizations are more protected compared to those who are not vaccinated. The advance in vaccination caused hospital admissions to drop, taking our occupancy rate to very low levels. Occupancy in the wards is 16.5%, and the ICU is 28.4%”, said, in a statement, the state secretary of Health, Alexandre Chieppe.
Also according to the survey, within the age group of 49 years of age or less, 42.59% were not vaccinated; 39.57% were partially and 9.82% completed the cycle. For those aged between 50 and 64 years, 23.7% did not get immunized; 27.81% received one dose and 19.01% both.
The group of elderly people who most received the booster dose was from 80 years to 84 years of age, with a coverage of 95.1%, followed by the group from 70 years to 74 years of age, with 55.4% of immunization against Covid-19.
The state secretary of Health also stressed the importance of the population receiving the booster dose, available at health posts, and continuing to maintain prevention measures.
“So far, only 10.6% of the elderly aged between 60 and 64 years have received booster doses in the state, according to records from the National Immunization Program (PNI), and 31.9%, between 65 and 69 years old” , said Chippe.
“[Essas] coverages need to increase to ensure complete immunity. The pandemic is not over yet, so it is also important that the population continues to maintain prevention measures.”
